DIY Pure Vanilla Extract

Updated: Mar 24, 2020

Y'all, Homemade vanilla is where it's at! It's SO much cheaper to make your own and there's no filler ingredients or anything! Also, it's beyond EASY. You literally spend 2min making it, IF THAT, and then put it in the back of your pantry. 6 months later, Vanilla! I typically make it in a large 32oz mason jar and then when it's ready to be used, I move most of it to a cute bottle I picked up from ikea and I leave the mason jar in the back of the pantry and refill it. The vanilla beans will last for a few different batches of vanilla! One thing I did, which you don't HAVE to do, is I sliced some of the beans to release the actual vanilla bean seeds in my vanilla. I feel like it makes the vanilla flavor stronger, but again, not required and you can definitely just put the beans in whole.

Ingredients:

- Vanilla Beans

- Vodka (cheap vodka!)

- Glass jar for storage

Here's what I use for vanilla beans

For the vodka I use Smirnoff

Directions:

1. Place 10-12 vanilla beans in a glass jar

2. Fill to the top with vodka

3. Place in the back of your pantry

4. Stir/Swirl every week or two for 6 months

**Always remember to keep the vanilla beans COMPLETELY covered if you're using it from the same jar you made it in because if you don't, the beans will get slimy.**
